RESOURCES
Practical reading for better financial conversations.
Our practice notes explain the working questions behind accounts, reporting and system change. They are written to help you prepare information, understand boundaries and ask more useful questions. They are general educational material, not a substitute for advice on a particular business.
Prepare for a more useful month-end
Begin by identifying the reporting period, missing records and the person responsible for each open item. A close is easier to review when bank differences, customer allocations and supplier queries are kept visible. Ask whether the figures are complete and comparable before discussing what they mean.
Understand what a report establishes
Read the title, period, basis and any accompanying professional report. Preparation, management reporting and independent assurance are not interchangeable. A reference or verification link helps check the recorded issue details; the document itself explains its purpose and limitations.
Plan a system change with evidence
Before selecting a migration date, agree the records to move, the opening position and the checks required. Test a sample workflow and identify who will own the system after launch. Training and process decisions are part of readiness, not optional decoration added after the software is switched on.
Common questions
Can these notes answer a live technical or regulatory question?
They provide context only. Email the firm so the facts, relevant requirements and need for professional advice can be assessed.
