REPORTING
Prepare statements with their basis and boundaries in view.
Financial statement preparation starts with the applicable purpose and the quality of the underlying records. We help assemble statements and supporting information according to the accepted engagement. The required reporting framework and any separate professional opinion are determined before work is described as complete.
Review the starting information
The work may require a trial balance, comparative information, accounting policies and schedules supporting significant balances. We identify missing records and matters requiring management judgement. A preparation engagement does not remove management's responsibility for the underlying accounts, estimates or completeness of information.
Develop the draft with supporting schedules
Agreed statements and notes are prepared from the approved information. We seek clarification where balances, disclosures or period comparisons are inconsistent. Adjustments and disclosure decisions are recorded for review. The precise statement set and framework depend on the entity and the engagement rather than a one-size-fits-all template.
Distinguish preparation from assurance
A prepared set of statements is not automatically an audited set. Any audit, review or other assurance service requires its own acceptance, scope and authorised signatory. Before sharing a final document, read its purpose, accompanying reports and restrictions. Verification identifies the issue record, not the level of assurance independently of the report.
Common questions
Can the same document be reused for another purpose?
Not without considering its basis, restrictions and the new recipient's needs. Ask us before relying on it for a different assignment.
